DÉCAAR Algae Peel in Cambridge
A professional, acid-free peel using algae-derived microfibres, and one of Kelsey's favourite treatments for pigmentation and sun-damaged skin.
What is the DÉCAAR Algae Peel?
The DÉCAAR Algae Peel is a biological peel, which means it doesn't use acid to resurface your skin. Instead, a powder of algae and herbal ingredients is mixed into a paste and worked into your skin.
According to DÉCAAR, the microfibres in the powder increase blood flow and encourage your skin to produce new cells.
Kelsey will check whether it suits your skin, and whether another treatment would help you more, before you book a course.
A favourite for pigmentation and sun damage
DÉCAAR lists pigmentation and age spots among the concerns this peel is designed for. Many people choose it when sun exposure has left their skin looking patchy, uneven or tired.
Results vary, and a course usually works better than a single treatment. Daily SPF is essential to protect your results.
The peel may help improve the look of:
- Pigmentation and uneven skin tone
- Sun-damaged skin and age spots
- Dull or dehydrated-looking skin
- Rough or uneven skin texture
- Congested skin and enlarged-looking pores
- Fine lines and early signs of ageing
What happens at your appointment?
Allow about an hour for your appointment.
- Kelsey talks through your skin, health and goals, and checks the treatment is suitable.
- Your skin is cleansed and prepared.
- The algae paste is brushed on, then massaged into your skin. You may feel warmth and a prickling sensation.
- The paste is removed and your skin is finished with soothing products and sun protection.
- Kelsey explains your aftercare and the home skincare that will support your results.
Recovery and aftercare
Most people can go back to work straight away, although your skin may look red. Kelsey will give you personal advice, but this is a general guide:
- First 24 hours: avoid touching the area, make-up and strenuous exercise.
- First 48 hours: avoid saunas, swimming, hot baths, heavy sweating and sun exposure.
- Up to 5 days: your skin may feel dry or rough, like fine sandpaper, and you may notice some light flaking.
- Every day: wear SPF and use the home skincare Kelsey recommends.
Common questions
How many sessions will I need?
A course of three is often recommended for pigmentation and more established concerns. Kelsey will confirm the right number and timing at your appointment, with no pressure to commit.
When will I see results?
You may notice brighter, smoother-looking skin over the following days. Pigmentation usually takes longer to change, and results vary from person to person.
Will my skin visibly peel?
Not everyone peels in an obvious way. Some people have light flaking in certain areas, while others mainly notice dryness or a rough feeling.
How is it different from a chemical peel?
A chemical peel uses acids to resurface the skin, while this peel uses algae microfibres. Kelsey offers both, so she can recommend the one that suits your skin.
Is the algae peel right for me?
This treatment isn't suitable for everyone. If you're unsure, send Kelsey an enquiry before you book.
It may not be right if you:
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have a skin infection, a cold sore, or broken or sunburnt skin in the treatment area
- Have taken isotretinoin (such as Roaccutane) recently
- Use retinol and haven't been advised when to pause it
- Have an allergy to algae or plant ingredients
- Have a medical condition or take medication that could affect your skin or healing
